Why people look past Murf

Most Murf customers are happy. We pulled its 50 most recent Trustpilot reviews and its 50 most recent G2 reviews on September 27, 2026. On Trustpilot, 47 of the 50 were invited by Murf, and they average 4.91. On G2 the 50 average 4.57, and none rate it below three stars. The reasons people leave show up in G2's dislikes field, which every reviewer fills in, and in the three unprompted Trustpilot reviews.

Voices that sound flat. About 14 of the 50 G2 reviewers say some voices sound robotic or lack emotion, and 11 mention mispronounced words, often technical terms they then fix by hand.

“Limited voice customization options and occasional robotic tones in some voices.”Marko S., G2, Mar 2025

Price, and a free plan without downloads. About a dozen G2 reviewers call Murf expensive, and 8 say the free plan is too limited. It includes 10 minutes of voice generation and no downloads, and the first paid plan is $29 a month.

“The free version is very limited - you can’t even download your work, so it’s really just for testing.”Rajnish K., G2, Aug 2025

Studio friction and billing. A few reviewers describe lag and trouble keeping voice blocks in sync with video. Two of the three unprompted Trustpilot reviews are about renewals the reviewer didn't want.

“I spent way too much time trying to sync the text-to-speech blocks with my video, and the whole thing kept lagging or glitching out every time I made a small change.”Tiara D, Trustpilot, Apr 2026
“It’s frustrating that they won't give refunds for renewals I didn't want, especially since any minutes I paid for but didn't use just vanish at the end of the month.”Dana C, Trustpilot, Mar 2026

The 4 best Murf alternatives

  1. ElevenLabs

More realistic voices, more languages, lower entry price

The most direct fix for Murf's most common complaint, voices that sound flat. ElevenLabs lists 10,000+ voices and 70+ languages on Eleven v3, and audio tags such as [whispers] or [laughs] let you direct emotion in the script. Pronunciation dictionaries handle names and terminology. It costs less to start: the free plan gives 10,000 credits a month (non-commercial), and Starter adds a commercial license and instant voice cloning for $6 a month, against Murf's $29 Creator plan. On reviews it doesn't beat Murf. Invited Trustpilot reviewers rate the two about the same (4.95 vs 4.91), and Murf scores higher on G2 (4.7 vs 4.5). ElevenLabs' own weak spots are credits that run out faster than people expect, billing disputes, and uneven support.

  2. Descript

If syncing voice to video in Murf's Studio is the problem

A video and podcast editor where you edit media by editing its transcript, with AI speech and custom voice clones from the Hobbyist plan up. That suits people who find Murf's block-by-block timing clumsy. Hobbyist costs $16 a month billed yearly or $24 monthly, with 400 AI credits; dubbing into 30+ languages comes with Business ($50 yearly, $65 monthly). It is an editor first, so AI speech draws on a monthly credit allowance. Its 50 most recent Trustpilot reviews are all unprompted and average 1.48; its 50 most recent G2 reviews average 4.41.

  3. Speechify Studio

A cheaper yearly plan with cloning included

Speechify's voiceover and dubbing studio lists 1,000+ voices in 60+ languages. Studio Starter costs $100 a year for 86,400 Studio credits and includes voice cloning and commercial rights. The free plan (600 credits) has no cloning or commercial rights, and you need a paid plan to download MP3s, so it doesn't solve Murf's no-download complaint. Speechify's Trustpilot reviews look strong (4.5 across 44 recent unprompted reviews), but they cover the whole company and mostly describe its text to speech reader app, not Studio.

  4. WellSaid

English training narration with unlimited retakes

Built for corporate training and marketing teams. It has 280+ voices modeled on licensed recordings of voice actors, a shared pronunciation library, and an AI Director for pacing and pronunciation, which targets the mispronounced terms Murf reviewers fix by hand. Paid plans charge only for downloaded minutes, so regenerating is unlimited: Starter is $19 a month for 20 minutes, or $10 a month billed yearly. Self-serve and Business plans are English only. Its unprompted Trustpilot reviews average 1.58 (19 reviews), and its invited sample (3) is too small to judge.

When to stay with Murf

If your work is narrated slides, e-learning modules, or training videos, Murf is built for it. The Studio times voice to visuals, and it connects to Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint, and Adobe Captivate. Paid plans meter flat hours of voice generation with unlimited downloads, which is simpler to budget than credits. Murf's security page lists ISO 42001, ISO 27001, and SOC 2 Type II. Its review scores are strong too: 4.7 on G2 and 4.6 on Trustpilot. If the voices already sound right to you, switching mostly means rebuilding projects somewhere else.

If voice realism, languages, or the entry price is why you're looking, try ElevenLabs on its free plan with the same script. Read its full review record, critical reviews included, and its refund policy before you pay.

Trustpilot labels each review as invited or unprompted; we report the two groups separately and treat samples under 10 as too small to compare. Theme counts come from reading each G2 review's dislikes. Quotes are verbatim. Pricing and product claims come from each vendor's own pages; overall ratings from the platforms named.
