Why people look past WellSaid

WellSaid collects few public reviews: 23 on Trustpilot in total, with 9 in the past year. We pulled 22 of them on September 27, 2026, dated October 2022 to June 2026. Trustpilot marks each review as invited or unprompted. The 3 invited reviews, all from May 2026, give five stars. The 19 unprompted reviews average 1.58, and 15 are one star. ElevenLabs' recent unprompted reviews average 1.52 (29 reviews, August to September 2026), so neither company does better on that measure. Thirteen of WellSaid's 19 unprompted reviews predate 2025, and some describe plans it no longer sells, so weigh the older complaints accordingly.

Billing and refunds come up most. Eight reviews describe renewals after a cancellation, charges they didn't expect, or a flat no-refund answer. WellSaid's online services agreement calls payments nonrefundable and requires cancelling at least 24 hours before the period ends.

“We cancelled our subscription 2 months before renewal, but somehow it “didn’t go through.” So we got charged a $550 renewal even though we haven’t used the service in months.”Brian, Trustpilot, August 2024

Support is the next theme. Eight reviews call it slow or unhelpful, and five describe accounts blocked or banned, either by a login rule tied to one IP address or by content moderation that flagged ordinary words.

“Good luck if you need support. They will take your money but even at a professional level…it’s bad support.”Phil Quaglino, Trustpilot, January 2026
“They decided to implement a "security" feature that only allows you to log in once a day and only from one IP address.”Robiin Brodowsky, Trustpilot, May 2023

Price and plan limits make up the rest. Reviewers in 2022 and 2023 bought a $49 plan and found only four voices unlocked. Current Starter and Pro plans list all English voices, but other languages still require Enterprise, and price remains the complaint in the more balanced reviews.

“However, the platform feels very limited and the pricing is high compared to others. It’s a great tool if you have a large budget, but the lack of flexibility and high cost make it hard to recommend for smaller projects.”Kayla Franklin, Trustpilot, March 2026

The 4 best WellSaid alternatives

  1. ElevenLabs

More voices and languages for less

The broadest fix for WellSaid's price and plan limits. ElevenLabs has a free plan with 10,000 credits a month and a $6 Starter plan with a commercial license, against WellSaid's $19 Starter ($10 a month billed yearly). Its library lists 10,000+ voices, it speaks 70+ languages where WellSaid keeps non-English voices for Enterprise, and you can clone a voice from the $6 plan. On review scores it doesn't pull ahead: unprompted Trustpilot reviews average 1.52 for ElevenLabs (29 reviews, August to September 2026) and 1.58 for WellSaid (19 reviews, 2022 to 2026), a tie. Its weak spots are real. Every generation uses credits, so retakes cost money where WellSaid's are free, and credits running out is its most common complaint. Its reviewers also report billing trouble after cancelling and uneven support.

  2. Murf

Closest match for enterprise training teams

Murf sells to the same corporate training and marketing buyers as WellSaid, with 200+ voices across 35+ languages, voices made with actors who earn royalties, and SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and HIPAA compliance listed on its site. That makes it the pick if you need WellSaid's compliance story in more languages. Its free plan includes 10 minutes of voice generation without a commercial license, and downloads need a paid plan; check murf.ai/pricing for current paid tiers. Invited Trustpilot reviewers rate it 4.91 (47 reviews), but its unprompted sample (3 reviews) is too small to judge.

  3. Descript

If the voiceover lives inside a video edit

A text-based audio and video editor with AI speech built in: stock voices, custom voice clones, and native-sounding AI speakers in 14 languages. It fits teams that narrate and edit in one place. Paid plans start at $16 per person a month billed yearly ($24 monthly), there's a free plan, and it states SOC 2 Type II compliance. Voice is one feature among many here, and its unprompted Trustpilot reviews average 1.48 (50 reviews, February to September 2026), lower than WellSaid's.

  4. Speechify Studio

Low-cost yearly plan with a large voice list

Speechify's creator product offers 1,000+ voices, a free plan with 600 Studio credits, and a Studio Starter plan at $100 a year that adds voice cloning. Its unprompted Trustpilot average is high (4.5 across 44 reviews in September 2026), but most of those reviews are about Speechify's reading and listening app, not the Studio voiceover tool.

When to stay with WellSaid

WellSaid has real strengths. Paid plans charge only for downloaded minutes, so you can regenerate a line as often as you want. Its pronunciation tools, including a shared library and 9,000+ medical and 500+ legal terms, suit training content full of jargon. Business adds purchase orders and invoicing, and Enterprise adds SOC 2 reports and SSO. If you narrate English scripts for a team, your problem is a one-off billing dispute, and the voices work for you, raising it with WellSaid's support may cost less than moving projects elsewhere. Projects stay stored for up to 5 years after cancellation, but you can't download them while the subscription is inactive, so export first if you leave.

If price, languages, or voice choice is why you're leaving, ElevenLabs is the broadest option here and the free plan lets you test it on your own script. Read its full review record, critical reviews included, before you decide.
